Clover 8

April 30, 2015

Update: No longer at Kallang. Clover 8 has relocated to 77 High St, Singapore 179433

I love Clover 8! Besides the delicious food, the service is really good too!
Without any delay, let's get to the food.

I will be updating this post with more food that I try out at this restaurant so do come back and check this post again every once in a while :)

Vegan 'cheese' balls
It's not exceptionally tasty but that's just my opinion. The filling is rich and creamy and the outer layer is crispy. With nutritional yeast, these 'cheese' balls are a good source of B12. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try these :)

Vegan Mushroom Pesto Ravioli
Quite oily but very flavourful. The texture of the pasta is good and not rubbery or too thick. The filling makes this dish very filling, hahaha.

Price: $13.80
This is one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. But compared to pesto pastas elsewhere, the one in Clover 8 is considered affordable.
(But in my opinion, if you do visit Clover 8, I would recommend choosing the cheaper local options.)

Olive fried rice
I love fried rice. This one definitely falls within my list of top 5 fried rices which I've tried so far.

But the best part of Clover 8 are the char siew baos!!
These are the bomb. If you can only choose one thing from Clover 8, pick these. They will change your life and curb your meat cravings if you're already vegan/vegetarian. It tastes a lot like the real thing, if not better.

Chicken rice
The rice was fragrant and spot-on! The chicken was not as great, unfortunately. It has a slightly weird aftertaste but once you put the chilli sauce on it, it tastes just fine :) The texture of the 'chicken' is a little too chewy but other than that, it's a lovely dish! It comes with a soup.

Hot pepper fish with rice
I used to love black pepper crab.
This hot pepper sauce reminds me of the black pepper crab sauce!! It's spicy and so delicious when accompanied with the rice. If pepper is your thing, do try this out.

Unfortunately the siew mai dim sum isn't as impressive as the char siew bao. It is nice to have a vegan siew mai option though!

Carbonara (no longer vegan)
It's made with cashew 'cheese' 'cream' sauce. It's so creamy and filling! No more need for non-vegan alfredo/carbonara ever again :)

Green curry
Green curry is probably my favourite kind of curry. This curry with plain rice is so simple but it tastes so good! Unfortunately, the quality of the curry is inconsistent. It used to blow me away but when I had it again recently, it wasn't as great as it used to be.
The curry was thin and diluted. The flavour didn't have as much bang as it used to have. The mock meat in the curry was still yummy though.
But like I said, the quality is inconsistent. Perhaps it will be exceptionally delicious on the day you choose to order it. Hence, it's still a must-try.

Hor fun
It was a little bland but other than that, it was really tasty! My hor fun cravings were definitely satisfied :) They're also pretty generous with the portions.

Mee goreng (left)
The mee goreng is spicy and they are quite generous with the sauce. The portion is just right and the ratio of mock meat (prawn etc.) to noodles is just right as well.

Deep-fried Carrot cake (right)
Carrot cake is very special to me because it beings back a lot of good childhood memories. This carrot cake has a crispy outside and soft and chewy inside. It's not the same as my favourite carrot cake when I ate as a child, but this is a great vegan alternative!

Mango glutinous rice
The taste of the creamy coconut milk with the sticky, chewy and fragrant glutinous rice was amazing. This warm combo complimented the sweet and slightly cold mango perfectly and it was overall a lovely dessert :)  A perfect way to end a meal at Clover 8!

That's all for this post, bye!
